dIrector’s statement
With Intimité, I ask: can we truly control human nature especially when it comes to the messy origins of artistic creation? If spontaneity is the key to the genius of our collective unconscious, how wide do we open that Pandora’s box? And what is gained and what is lost when we try to regulate what springs forth?
As our ways of expressing emotion and narrative evolve alongside institutionalized empathy, what happens to the individual voice? Consider the iconic Last Tango in Paris, powerful but deeply troubling in hindsight, is there a place for such films in the modern day? Whatever the cost or reward, each act of creation reshapes our cultural record.
Intimité takes a Larry David meets All That Jazz approach with a darkly funny look at our attempts to corral human instinct, akin to herding cats with a god complex, and all the chaos and comedy that follow.
